However with an increase in the volume of imports of audio/video electronics, domestic electronic appliances and other electronic goods and with an inflow of cheap labor from the CIS, these two businesses were gradually losing their competitiveness. In this rather difficult situation, Dmitry started to look for a new niche for his business. Based on his experience gained over several years of business operations in the field of specialized trade and his knowledge of finishing materials, the entrepreneur launched a new line of business under Radiocom brand – trading in plastic finishing materials. The firm worked in close cooperation with a number of foreign produces and soon became one of the most visible suppliers of PVC finishing materials in the market. At a certain stage, Mr. Izvekov decided to launch his own production of PVC siding panels. He bought two second-hand extrusion lines from Dumaplast, a Belgian producer who also shared their production know-how with the Russian company which became an exclusive representative of the Dumaplast trade mark in Russia and changed its name from Radiocom for Decoplast. At the same time, the Russian producer registered its own brand Deco-D and started its promotion in the Russian market. To improve their competitive position, the company needed to increase their production capacity and to make panels of a higher quality, which required state-of-the-art equipment. And here, the loans of KMB-Bank turned out a very useful support for the company. For the first time, Decoplast approached KMB-Bank in 2002 when it took out its first loan under the RSBF Programme. The loan proceeds were used to buy a new extrusion line, which helped to considerably increase production output. Due to the rising volumes of panel production there was a need to expand the fleet of cars and this was achieved with the help of another loan from KMB-Bank.
Due to the know-how of its Belgian partners and the loans received via KMB-Bank within the framework of the EBRD Russia Small Business Fund, Decoplast grew into one of the industry’s top five leading companies. Recently a remarkable event took place in the life of Decoplast: its merger with TERNA group, a producer of PVC siding, window-sill boards, industrial profiles and baseboards. In the Russian market, the joint company operates under the brand name of Terna Polymer. | ||||||||||||
